Ice hockey player trains for success

A young ice hockey player is recognising the benefits of gym training sessions to support his continued progression in the sport.

Cameron Wilkie, aged 16, from Glenrothes, has recognised facilities and instructor experience at our gyms are key in helping him improve his overall performance.

Since taking up ice hockey nine years ago, Cameron has played for Great Britain under 16s, Scotland under 17s and was scouted to take part in a hockey academy in Ontario, Canada. Cameron has recently signed for Kirkcaldy Kestrels.

Cameron said: “I decided that to improve my overall fitness and playing performance, I would add gym sessions into my training schedule – I use trust facilities five times and week and have noticed a significant improvement in my speed, strength, shooting and passing.

“I love the range of equipment on offer at the trust and really appreciate the expertise of the gym staff. I’m delighted with the results for my overall and match fitness levels.”

Calum Foster, health and fitness adviser for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “I think no matter what level or experience you have, getting physically active can have huge benefits. Not all of us are at elite sports level but making small changes in our daily routines and increasing our physical activity to suit our lifestyles delivers huge health and wellbeing benefits.”
