Youngsters set for an active 2023

We are jumping into the New Year with an exciting new initiative to help youngsters across the region enjoy free swimming.

We, in partnership with Fife Council, are launching a Winter Concessionary Funding package aimed to support families with a free offer to help keep children active.

Our usual holiday offer which gives juniors, aged 17 and under, free swimming during school holidays is being extended to the first three months of 2023 in light of the cost-of-living crisis and goes live today (Tuesday, January 3). The offer will be valid at Beacon Leisure Centre, Bowhill Swimming Pool, Carnegie Leisure Centre, Cupar Sports Centre, East Sands Leisure Centre, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre and Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre, Monday to Friday during times for public swimming.

Emma Walker, chief executive for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer free swimming to families across Fife thanks to additional funding from Fife Council. We believe the Winter Concessionary Funding package will deliver real benefits to local communities – we are looking at additional funding measures to offer more targeted support to other age groups and families and will announce these offers soon.

“The trust is committed to making a difference and we believe that this offer, at a time when everyone is feeling the pressure of price rises, will help us deliver on that commitment.”

Linda Erskine, Fife Council's spokesperson for communities and leisure, commented:  "These are very challenging times across Fife and I'm delighted we're able to make this happen and lessen the burden for families where we can.

“Being able to swim is an important life skill and a great activity to keep you fit and healthy. We hope as many families as possible can take advantage of the offer.”
