Current training courses 

Throughout Fife, we have a shortage of trained Leisure Attendants and Swimming Instructors. By completing the NPLQ or SSTQ course you will unlock lots of employment opportunities. Please note, to complete the courses below participants must be 16 years or over.

Leisure Attendants
In order to work with us as a Leisure Attendant, you will need to complete an NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) qualification. This is a 36 hour 5 day course which costs £260.

The next NPLQ courses start in 2023;

  • 10th April 2023 at Cupar Sports Centre
  • 17th April 2023 at Inverkeithing High School
  • 3rd July 2023 at Cupar Sports Centre
  • 10th July 2023 at Lochgelly High School
  • 24th July 2023 at Inverkeithing High School
  • 31st July 2023 at Kirkcaldy Leisure Centre
  • 9th October 2023 Carnegie Leisure Centre
  • 16th October 2023Lochgelly High School

Swimming Instructors
We are also recruiting Swimming Instructors. The Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) is the industry standard for those who wish to teach unsupervised to groups of swimmers with a range of abilities and is essential for seeking employment as a swimming teacher. This qualification is achieved from a practically based course and will allow you to gain the necessary skills and experience prior to progressing to an aquatics working environment. It will support your ongoing learning and development ensuring that you are fully prepared to deliver high quality lessons.

The 8 day course costs £550 participants can apply for funding from subsidy of £100 from Sportscotland. Candidates must apply directly to Scottish Swimming by submitting a SSTQ Subsidy form to prior to the first day of the course.

33 days holiday rising to 38 after 5 years

Staff can enjoy a total of 33 days including public holidays, 6 of which are fixed.

After 5 years of service, this number increases to 38 days.
