Current training courses 

Throughout Fife, we have a shortage of trained Leisure Attendants and Swimming Instructors. By completing the NPLQ or SSTQ course you will unlock lots of employment opportunities. Please note, to complete the courses below participants must be 16 years or over.

Leisure Attendants
In order to work with us as a Leisure Attendant, you will need to complete an NPLQ (National Pool Lifeguard Qualification) qualification. This is a 36 hour 5 day course which costs £260. Please see the 2023 NPLQ courses start dates below

Swimming Instructors
We are also recruiting Swimming Instructors. The Scottish Swimming Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) is the industry standard for those who wish to teach unsupervised to groups of swimmers with a range of abilities and is essential for seeking employment as a swimming teacher. This qualification is achieved from a practically based course and will allow you to gain the necessary skills and experience prior to progressing to an aquatics working environment. It will support your ongoing learning and development ensuring that you are fully prepared to deliver high quality lessons.

The 8 day course costs £550 participants can apply for funding from subsidy of £100 from Sportscotland. Candidates must apply directly to Scottish Swimming by submitting a SSTQ Subsidy form to subsidy@scottishswimming.com prior to the first day of the course.

The current rate is £10.90 and is independently calculated each year in November and applies to all employees aged 18 and over.

Staff can enjoy a total of 33 days including public holidays, 6 of which are fixed.
