We and Cupar and District Swimming Club (CDSC) were selected as finalists at the national swimming governing body’s Scottish Swimming Awards.
We were one of three finalist who were chosen as Provider of the Year for its delivery of the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim programme. The programme gives people of all ages, from babies to older adults, the opportunity to get in the water and progress seamlessly through class levels, either building confidence, becoming a competent swimmer, progressing onto club level or learning new disciplines like water polo or Rookie Lifeguard training.
And, the Cupar-based swimming club was selected as a finalist for Club of the Year in recognition of its work to develop and strengthen both performance and swimming at a community level.
The recognition of the Learn to Swim delivery follows our highest number of participants in our aquatic programme, confirming our place as Scotland’s biggest provider of swimming lessons.
Lee Cunningham, aquatics manager for Fife Sports and Leisure Trust, said: “We were so pleased to be selected as finalists of the Scottish Swimming awards – it is a great boost for our aquatic team that helps delivery lessons across Fife. We now have over 8,000 participants in our Learn to Swim programme – the figure includes those enrolled at the trust’s facilities as well five Fife Council community-use pools.
“I’m really pleased that Fife is leading the way nationally in engaging more people to learn a lifesaving skill and to improve their aquatic skills. And congratulations to C&DSC, they are a great example of the importance to the trust of partnership working with local clubs.”
Helen McGeorge, president of CDSC said “The whole club was absolutely delighted to have been included in the top three in the Club of the Year Award. It’s really positive to see the value being placed on inclusion and wider access in the swimming environment and the links between the trust’s Learn to Swim programme and the competitive, fitness and social swimming pathways offered by CDSC.”
